Classification advisors are often called upon to provide organization and classification (OC) advice. This course (part 2) examines classification grievances and organizational design for OC programs. Using a case study approach, participants will perfect the necessary competencies to participate in the implementation of an OC program.

Topics include:

  • roles and responsibilities, policies, and procedures for handling classification grievances
  • potential impacts of grievance committee decisions
  • steps of the planning and development phases
  • organizational design implementation phase


This course is part of a classification suite of courses that are open to public servants working and specializing in classification only. It forms part of the mandatory learning curriculum, practicum and accreditation for the TBS Classification Program for the CPA/Classification Oversight specialists under the Treasury Board Classification Policy Suite. The accreditation in classification is required to obtain a classification sub-delegation and be authorized to make classification decisions in a Department. Classification decision have financial implications and must be done in the public interest to ensure government funds are spent wisely.
