Effective Two-Minute Briefings (Z132)

Type: Classroom
Duration: 04:00 hours
Status: Active

Everybody's time is limited, but few face more of a time crunch than deputy heads and ministers. This highly interactive course introduces the strategies and tools needed to effectively communicate the essence of an issue at hand in two minutes or less while ensuring that what is said is thorough and well-constructed. Participants will learn how to brief their deputy heads and ministers by confidently and succinctly delivering their main messages with maximum effectiveness.

Topics include:

  • communication strategies
  • tools to improve oral dialogue
  • delivering briefings and updates

This activity was designed for executives (EX-01 to EX-05 levels and equivalent) and senior-level employees just below manager level and managers (EX minus 2 and minus 1 levels) with experience in briefing senior executives or ministers for decision-making purposes. Participants should prepare for the course by selecting one topic on which they need to provide a briefing to a senior executive or minister for decision-making purposes. They will use this topic in the course to practise creating a 2-minute brief. For other public servants, the School recommends the course Being Brief: Making a Request Efficiently (B196), as well as the tools and courses of the Briefing Series, available in GCcampus.
