Green Procurement Targets

As of April 1, 2011, each department will establish at least 3 SMART green procurement targets to reduce environmental impacts.

Green Procurement Target: Procurement Processes and Controls. Read down the first column for the target status, performance measure and progress against the measure in the given fiscal year. Read to the right for the target for the Report on Plans and Prior.
1. Procurement Processes and Controls

Strategies/Comments

  1. The Procurement Unit will release Request for Proposals and accept submissions of bids electronically.
  2. All contracts will be printed double-sided.
  3. Folders will be reused or recycled.

Green procurement content will continue to be incorporated in the purchasing course for administrative assistants.

  1. The School will require that all new Procurement Group employees take the School's course Green Procurement (C215) within one year of being hired.
  2. The School will ensure that green procurement considerations are included in the Procurement Training course, which is available to all School employees.

The senior manager of the Procurement and Contracting Unit will ensure that environmental considerations will be taken into account for all procurement activities.

  1. Include environmental considerations in the procurement checklist as a reminder, and provide information regarding green procurement to all staff.

Target Status  
The School uses Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) procurement instruments as its primary procurement mechanism and leverages the use of environmental considerations already incorporated into these standing offers and supply arrangements.

The School will continue to update its internal contracting documents (i.e. Statement of Work, Request for Proposal and Request for Standing Offer templates) to ensure that up-to-date environmental considerations are included.

  1. Ensure that purchases are made through PWGSC consolidated procurement instruments, whenever possible.
  2. Ensure that environmental considerations are included in any procurement initiatives undertaken by the School.
