Open discussions between managers and their team members are an important element of managing performance and preserving workplace well-being. This course helps to develop the skills necessary to navigate difficult performance conversations with empathy and assertiveness, and influence the attainment of common and practical management goals. Through the use of feedback and role-playing exercises, participants will learn practical techniques for creating a safe and open environment in the workplace for the discussion of difficult topics.

Topics include:

  • creating a safe environment for discussions about performance
  • delivering difficult messages clearly and effectively
  • preparing for and managing constructive performance conversations
  • developing the feedback, empathy, assertiveness and listening skills required to engage employees in the process of managing performance

This course is recommended for managers seeking to learn how to have constructive performance conversations. It is intended to teach them how to make these conversations less stressful and more productive while ensuring that all parties are treated fairly and with respect.
