Human resources (HR) advisors are expected to have solid labour relations skills to help build support within teams. This course explores management rights, collective agreements, mediation, grievances, and termination of employment mechanisms in the context of the Public Service Labour Relations Act. Participants will learn how to work with management and bargaining agent representatives on major activities related to employer-employee relations.

Topics include:

  • reviewing the legislative framework for labour relations
  • defining the roles and responsibilities of labour relations advisors
  • distinguishing between disciplinary and non-disciplinary measures and grievances
  • interpreting collective agreements
  • understanding the terms and conditions of employment

Notes:

This course is intended for HR specialists and generalists with no more than two years' experience who provide advice to managers in the field of labour relations.
